During Term 3 while Year 7 students learnt remotely, they have explored the Surrealism movement from the 1920s. Inspired by the Surrealist artists Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Andre Breton, Paul Klee, and many more who expressed creative potential of the subconscious mind. Year 7 have investigated artworks which unlock the subconscious mind by representing landscape, images of natural scenery in a fantasy or dreamlike quality while incorporating subjects in unfamiliar places, sometimes featuring impossible creatures and impossible scenery.
In these works, students appropriated Henri Magritte's painting 'False Mirror' creating their own version of this iconic Surrealist artwork.
Using animal portrait stencils, students applied Surrealist artmaking techniques
In these works students developed their 2 point perspective drawing skills, producing the following sketches of a cliff side house.
Year 7 have recently completed their own Surrealist artwork, expressing their imagination of a City in one's mind. They are full of imagination and creativity!
