School attendance is essential to the learning process and for school success. Because of this, North Salem Elementary is required to follow state law and district attendance policy. All students must have an excuse submitted to the office within three days of their return to school after any absence. Additionally, parental excuses may only be accepted for a maximum of ten (10) days for the entire school year. The DASD Board Policy 204 can be found here. Our electronic excuse form is accessible here.
Educational Trip forms (SERF pass) can be accessed online using this link, or by picking up a form in the North Salem Office. Please remember that a maximum of 5 days may be used for an educational trip (SERF) and that these days are part of the ten (10) day maximum for parental excuses.
If your child is showing COVID related symptoms, they should not be sent to school. Either a doctor's excuse or a parent excuse must be turned into school for missed days.
This year the entire North Salem student body will be participating in a literacy initiative called One School One Book. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage reading both in and out of school.
We have selected the book Mr. Popper's Penguins as the book we will be reading as a school. Each family will be receiving their own copy of the book to keep, thanks to a combined financial effort from the Eagle Foundation and the North Salem PTO.
Families should look for an information packet to be sent home the first week in September.
North Salem Elementary School, along with all DASD schools, is partnering with a team from Dover High School's DECA department. This team is competing at the DECA Career Development Conference in February.
North Salem will be holding a coin drive as part of our partnership, with proceeds going to Ryan's Hope charitable foundation. The coin drive will occur from Monday, August 29 through Friday, September 2. The classroom bringing in the most coins will be able to tape Mr. Young to a wall.
For more information about the DECA team's project and to learn about all of their fundraisers, you can access a letter from the team members here.
Parents and guardians looking to volunteer during the school year are required to complete Dover Area School District's Volunteer Application packet. This packet can be found on the district website by clicking this link.
If you have any interest in volunteering this year (chaperoning a trip, helping with PTO events, assisting with a school event) you are encouraged to get this completed as soon as possible.
All Student Drop Offs in the morning should occur around the back of the building using the parent drop off lane.
For student pick ups using the pick up lane, the driver must have a Student Pick Up pass from the office. Only individuals with a Pick Up pass will be permitted to pick up their child in the pick up lane. All others will be redirected to park in the front of the school and come to the office to sign their child out. A car rider pass application form can be found here. Once completed, the form should be brought into the office.
The student pick up lane does not open until 3:00 PM. Please follow our 5 MPH speed limit when driving around the school and when exiting the parking lot.
Our Back to School Night event is occurring on Thursday, September 1, 2022. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to come into the school to hear from their child's teacher about what their child will be learning this school year. This event is planned for adults only.
In order to accommodate families with multiple students, each teacher will be presenting two identical presentations following the schedule below:
Kindergarten, First grade, and Second Grade: 6:00 and 6:30.
Third grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade: 6:30 and 7:00.
Hello and welcome back! I wanted to share information about our upcoming Flu Vaccine Clinic.
