Hello NSE Families,
I hope this communication finds you all well, having had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. We head into a busy month as there are many various seasonal and holiday events and activities many of our students are involved in. While we want all of our students to enjoy this time of year, the staff at NSE continue to work through our curricula in order to maintain the necessary pacing. We fully understand the multitude of distractions and we appreciate your support in helping to keep our students learning and moving forward with their education.
NSE's PTO continues to support our students and staff in amazing ways. On November 30, they hosted The Grind Coffee Truck where each staff member was treated to a special beverage item of their choice. The PTO will be hosting a family event at the school on Wednesday, December 7 from 6 PM to 8 PM. More information will be sent out regarding this event by the PTO. Our PTO meets at 6:30 PM on the fourth Thursday of every month. Interested individuals can attend in person at NSE or via Zoom. I encourage you to get involved in this fantastic group of individuals who strive to support our school.
Be well and have a wonderful holiday season!
Mr. Christopher Young

NSE has an amazing PROUD Student Council made up of thirteen 4th and 5th grade students. These students, along with their staff advisor, Mrs. Gentzler, meet regularly to assist in making decisions within our school; such as options for our PROUD Reward Days and the creation of themed spirit days throughout the year.
This year's PROUD Council is again sponsoring a food drive called the Grinch Gives Back Food Drive. The goal for our building is to collect 800 items to be donated to the New Hope Ministries Food Pantry. Items will be collected from December 7 through December 17. If we meet our building's goal, we are hopeful that the Grinch, himself, will make an appearance before break.
PROUD Council is also sponsoring an event to culminate their food drive event. This will occur on Saturday, December 17th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM in NSE's cafeteria. The entrance fee to this event will be 1 canned food item per participant. Participants will be offered a hot cocoa bar, cookie decorating, craft activity, and there will be possible appearances by several special guests.
Please check out the theme days (seen below) that PROUD Council has planned for our lead up to our holiday break.
A reminder to all families that throughout the winter we will be getting our students outdoors as much as possible for recess. Please remember to have your child dressed appropriately for outdoor recess; wearing a coat, gloves, and a hat.
We appreciate your help in keeping our students warm while playing outdoors.
If your student is absent from school, please be sure to submit an excuse card (paper or virtual) within three days of his/her return to school.
Educational Trip forms (SERF Passes) are limited to 5 days throughout the entire school year. These days are included in the maximum 10 days of allowable parental excuses per year.
Dover Area School District's Attendance Policy (Policy 204) is aligned to the State of Pennsylvania's Compulsory School Attendance Requirements. Dover Area School Board recognizes that attendance is an important factor in educational success, and supports a comprehensive approach to identify and address attendance issues.
MONITORING STUDENT HEALTH
Please continue to monitor your child's health daily. If they are showing symptoms of an illness or have a fever over 100 degrees, please keep them at home and notify the school nurse. While we want our students in school to learn, we want to ensure sick students are able to rest at home to avoid making others ill.
