May 2023

A Message From Mr. Young

North Salem Elementary Families,

It is my hope that our May Newsletter finds all of our North Salem families well and enjoying the spring season. Just like in year's past, I am always amazed at how quickly a school year can fly by. In almost four short weeks, we will be wrapping up the 2022-2023 school year and our students will begin summer vacation. They have worked extremely hard and displayed each of our school's P.R.O.U.D. behaviors. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of your child's education and of our collective school community.

Students in grades three, four, and five will finish the state assessments (PSSAs) by Friday, May 5th. Students in all three grades showed outstanding dedication and work ethic in taking these assessments seriously and working to the best of their ability. While education is far more than a standardized test score, we do use this data in making educational and instructional decisions as a school and as a district. We appreciate the effort all of our students put into these assessments.

During the first full week of May (May 7-13) DASD and NSE will recognize Teacher Appreciation Week. Words cannot express how grateful we all are to our amazing teachers and staff at NSE. Our dedicated staff ensures a safe and welcoming environment for just over 400 students to learn and grow each day. We are grateful for their tireless efforts to support and teach the students at North Salem Elementary.

Finally, I want to wish our fifth grade students and families well as they make a transition into the next chapter of their education. I am confident our current group of fifth grade students will shine as they do great things at the middle school level and beyond. We will be supporting you and cheering you on as you continue your education.

Please take care and be well!
