A Message From Mr. Young

Happy February to all! Even though the groundhog saw his shadow, predicting 6 more weeks of winter, I hope that the season continues without weather related cancellations and/or delays. The district does have several make-up days built in to our upcoming calendar in the event school is completely canceled. In addition, the district may seek to call a Remote Learning Day in the event of inclement weather. Should this be a possibility, iPads and materials would be sent home the day before a possible Remote Learning Day.

For families with students in grades 3, 4, and 5, I wanted to share this year's PSSA testing window. The ELA PSSA testing window is April 24 to 28, while the Math, Science, and Make-Up testing window is from May 1 to May 5. These are state mandated assessments for all students in grades 3 through 8. Please work to avoid scheduling doctor's visits or other appointments during these dates. Also, no educational trip forms (SERF passes) will be approved for students during these testing windows.

NSE Envirothon Teams

NSE is again sponsoring two Envirothon teams this school year; one 5th grade team and one 3rd/4th grade team. Envirothon is the largest environmental education competition in the nation. In Pennsylvania, Envirothon competitions are sponsored by county conservation district. The competition is scheduled to occur in early May at John C. Rudy Park. Read Across America

NSE will be recognizing the importance of early literacy again this year as we celebrate Read Across America Week.

This year's Read Across America Week will occur from Monday, February 27th through Friday, March 3. One of the ways we will be celebrating this week is with themed spirit days which are listed below.

Spirit Days-

Feb 27- Dress like a lobster or Shine Bright like a lighthouse

Feb 28- Dress in Nature Colors/Camo

Mar 1- Camping in our PJs

Mar 2- Dress like a Hiker/Explorer

Mar 3- Dress as your favorite forest animal

Spring picture day is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

BUCK A BOOK

Buck a Book envelopes are due by Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

FEBRUARY 17 and 20

School will not be in session for students on Friday, February 17 and on Monday, February 20, 2023.

NSE PTO's BOOK BINGO

The PTO will be hosting a Book Bingo on Thursday, March 2 from 6 to 8 PM in North Salem Elementary's cafeteria.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Families who are planning to register a child for Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year can begin the process on the district webpage. The registration link can be found here.
