Place a Hold on a Resource

If a resource is already out on loan you can place a hold on it to recall it. This means that the current user who has the item on loan (checked out) will be unable to renew it and will be prompted to return in time for the due date.

In order to place a hold on an item you need to visit LRC Search and know how to sign into your LRC account.

Placing a Hold

Once you've accessed LRC Search, you then need to find the resource you're interested in. If all of the copies of the resource are currently checked out you will be prompted to "Place Hold" on the item as you can see in the yellow, highlighted box below.

You can also select to "Place Hold(s)" on the item in the "Select an Action" drop-down menu. To do this you must select the tick box next to the item in the list and then choose the action or open the item details by selecting the title and completing the action on the next page. This would appear like the picture below:

If the item is not currently checked out or if there are multiple copies available then the option to "Place Hold" would not appear.

Managing Your Holds

You can manage your holds using your LRC Search account and selecting the "Holds" tab. The image below shows you where and how you can make changes to your holds. For instance you can cancel, suspend or edit your holds from this page. You need to remember to select the item you wish to make alterations to by using the square tick box next to the item.

If you have any further questions about placing and managing your holds then please feel free to contact the LRC.
