- Managing Dates to make your module 'Pulse-friendly'
Brightspace Pulse allows students to keep up-to-date with content items, calendar events, discussion forums, assignments, quizzes, and other activities - at a glance - from their Pulse homepage (1). However, to ensure that students are notified of your important module items you'll need to attach due dates or end dates to them. This short video guide demonstrates how you can manage your dates to make your module more 'Pulse-friendly'.

Pulse allows you to send real-time alerts and announcements to students directly on their mobile device. When creating module announcements you can ensure that these display properly in Pulse by by setting their date availability. By setting a start date and time, you can make sure that students see your announcements on their pulse notifications tab at just the right time.

Tip: Students can also use pulse to take part in a discussion and, because they are using their phone, they can also add photos, videos and audio to their discussion posts. An end date for each topic must be specified for the discussion topic to be highlighted in Pulse.

Students can use pulse to quickly check on their modules and see what readings, assignments, and activities are coming up. In their ‘upcoming’ tab they will see a visual guide to activities taking place, across all of their modules, in the days and weeks ahead. You can highlight module items and activities in students’ ‘upcoming’ tab by attaching a due date to them. To do so, simply click on the arrow next to an item, select ‘Edit Properties-In-Place’ and choose ‘Add dates and restrictions’. Set a due date (1) for the item and click ‘update’. In the example below we’ve added a due date of December 4th to a class reading. You can also add due dates to multiple content items at once by choosing ‘bulk edit’. Your content will now appear in each student’s ‘upcoming’ tab in pulse (2).

Did you know? Students can complete quizzes and submit assignments - including files, and audio and video recordings - right on their mobile devices. And when you publish grades, they will receive a notification and be able to view their grade instantly (see below).
