To close the digital learning gap, we must make sure that students have access to technology and high-speed internet outside of school.
Sustain a system and infrastructure for consistent access: Device Status
Replacements for Lost or Stolen Devices:
When a student reports a lost or stolen iPad, it is immediately put into lost mode after being reported at the library.
If the iPad cannot be tracked or found, the necessary information is provided to the student to make a police report.
To receive a replacement, the student must bring a hard copy of the police report and pay the iPad fee.
End-of-Year Device Collection Process:
At the end of the school year, all 8th and 12th-grade iPads are collected to prepare them for the next school year.
iPads for other grades are retained by the students and are not collected at the end of the year.
What is a Student Tech Team? Meet the Genius Squad
Student Leadership and Support:
The student tech team creates informative videos and flyers to educate teachers, students, and families about various technology tools and resources available.
They host "Appy Hours" sessions where they demonstrate how to use educational apps effectively for teaching and learning purposes.
Additionally, the team assists with IT help tickets, providing technical support to teachers, students, and families with device-related issues or questions.
Increasing Capacity of Student Tech Team Members:
The Genius Squad, part of the student tech team, joins events like the school's Lion Curriculum Fair to showcase classroom projects and recruit new members.
This involvement in community events not only enhances their leadership skills but also exposes them to real-world scenarios, increasing their technical proficiency and confidence.

Support for Digital Citizenship Growth:
Parents are supported through educational videos on our Mater website from Common Sense, offering guidance on digital citizenship.
The Genius Squad conducts presentations during Parent Academy sessions to inform parents about digital citizenship practices and resources.
Students engage in lessons from Common Sense to learn about digital citizenship, fostering responsible behavior online.
Fostering Student Ownership with Devices and Data Usage:
Students are encouraged to take ownership of their devices through initiatives such as personalized device setups and customization options.
Clear guidelines and expectations are established for data usage, empowering students to make responsible decisions regarding their device usage and data management.
Opportunities for student leadership and involvement, such as participation in the Genius Squad or digital citizenship initiatives, encourage students to take ownership of their digital lives and responsibilities.
LTE Data Influence on Instructional Practices:
LTE data availability is crucial, especially during testing when Wi-Fi tends to slow down. Having LTE ensures that iPads remain connected, facilitating uninterrupted access to educational materials and resources.
Data Usage Report Reflecting Student Connectivity Needs:
The data usage report reflects the importance of connectivity, particularly for students from low-income families. LTE helps these students stay connected to continue their education at home, bridging the digital divide and ensuring equitable access to learning resources.
Alignment of Claims Data with Device Care Procedures:
Our claims data aligns with device care procedures, showing a reduction in iPad screen damage since implementing tempered screen protectors. Moving forward, a focus area could involve further promoting responsible device handling to minimize damages and associated fines.
Effects of Implemented Systems on Maintenance and Replacement Processes:
The systems implemented by our school ensure prompt maintenance and replacement of damaged iPads. Damaged devices are replaced immediately upon payment of the iPad fee, streamlining the process and minimizing disruptions to student learning.
Our school excels in handling lost/stolen devices and organizing end-of-year iPad (8th and 12th) collections.
Student leaders, like the Genius Squad, educate on tech tools and support digital citizenship.
To sustain this, we'll maintain clear guidelines, ensure LTE access, and promote responsible device handling.
