Some of our Biggest Challenges this school year have been:

• Adapting to COVID and Illnesses that continue to keep our students and teachers away from school

• Combating the COVID Slide and learning loss due to disrupted education patterns

• Recurring Absences from both Faculty and Students due to illness 

• Adapting to a new leadership team and administration

To Overcome:

• remediate as much as possible

• providing online support

• providing access to free tutoring daily

• provide access to devices and connectivity to all students so learning can continue on campus and remotely

Guiding questions: 

1. How has the campus culture transformed due to this program? How do you know?

Mater Academy has transformed due to our participation as a VILS School because:

• We now have 1:1 devices for all our students and faculty in 6-12 grade WITH connectivity 

• We use Google Classroom schoolwide as an LMS or communication tool

• Teachers have increased their use of technology in some innovative and unique ways - from QR Code bathroom passes to using Gsuite to monitor and provide feedback on student essay to creating shared digital presentations with peers, our teachers are leveraging technology to do things no previously possible.

2. What needs to change (areas of growth) for your continuous growth in the program? Why and how?

• We need others to take the lead to grow the program further and to inject new ideas, enthusiasm, and provide further support.  

• We need to explore new ways to do out reach with our parents and community stakeholders

• We need to re-emphasize digital citizenship and promote student creativity with devices.
