To close the digital learning gap, we must make sure that students have access to technology and high-speed internet outside of school.
Devices are used consistently all across the school and the academic subjects.
At this time around 65% of our student are taking one Verizon device home and 100% of them are using devices in class.
We allow our students to bring their own devices which is why the percentage of those using VERIZON devices is only at 65%. However this is a 5% increase from last year and we are continuously making attempts to improve these numbers.
Digital Citizenship Lessons were developed by the district using Common Sense Media for use in our classes.
Digital Citizenship Lessons awareness will continue to happen twice every quarter during early release days as part of SEL implementation (Social Emotional Learning).
We are working on completing the requirements to earn the Common Sense School badge
To earn the Common Sense School badge, we need to complete four steps:
Created using Canva. This poster is placed around the school to encourage iPad care and responsability
Students with devices requiring repairs or maintenance complete the technology google form and turn in their iPad for service in the library. Additionally, Genius Squad students do regular device maintenance checks during homeroom and report to teachers' classrooms to provide 1:1 support during the school day.
Teachers assist us by setting classroom rules and expectations for device use. All students take devices home each day for use at home - no devices are stored in the school. This practice has allowed our students to continue their learning beyond the school day with many teachers using technology resources to curate materials and as a learning management system (Google Classroom) or for home learning and practice.
Aligning - We would like to increase the numbers of High School students who elect to use the Verizon iPads however those that do use the devices use them on a daily basis in all their classes. Visits to high school classrooms and discussions with students have increased the numbers of students opting to pick up a device. One way we are looking to increase these numbers in the future is to involve parents and share with them the benefits of the school issued iPad.
