Ongoing professional development supports effective teacher use of technology through the use of instructional technology coaches, teams of teacher leaders, or other systems of support.
At the beginning of the year, TIM-O showed that only 33% of the students are able to choose what they can work on through technology. During Tech Tuesday, I will continue to share digital resource demonstrations to help increase student autonomy when selecting a digital tool to demonstrate their knowledge of any given concept.
Participating in this year learning Experiences on collaboration have had a positive impact on teachers' willingness to share and showcase their best practices in using technology in the classroom. This has increase openness to a more collaborative and supportive environment as shown in our Mater Padlet. Our Mater educators are learning from one another and are discovering new ways to incorporate iPads across the curriculum.
By utilizing the Mater LX Padlet to share these new ideas, we are providing a platform for teachers to showcase their innovative uses of iPads. This has inspire and motivate others to explore similar approaches in their own classrooms.
How do you support your teachers individually and in small groups? (coaching menu)
The VILS coach supports teachers in various ways, including:
Tech support: Assisting teachers with both school-provided and personal devices, ensuring they have the necessary technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
Lesson planning: Collaborating with teachers to plan special activities and incorporate innovative approaches into their lessons, enhancing the learning experience for students.
Idea generation: Brainstorming creative ideas and strategies with teachers to foster engaging and effective learning experiences in the classroom.
Reflecting on feedback: Constantly reviewing and analyzing feedback from faculty and students to identify areas of improvement and tailor support services to better meet the needs of the school community.
How do your supports align with PLP and campus goals? (coaching artifacts)
As the VILS Coach and a former member of the math team, I provide crucial support to teachers, enabling them to feel comfortable, open-minded, and receptive to suggestions and strategies that enhance the learning experience. By creating a supportive environment, teachers are empowered to share ideas that benefit students, increase their own effectiveness, and implement differentiation strategies. I prioritize availability and regularly visit teachers, aligning with the school's goals of providing support and improving testing scores across all academic areas.
How are learning experiences implemented in the classrooms?
After a learning experience, teachers engage in departmental debriefings to share insights and exchange new ideas on technology-enhanced topics they wish to explore further. The teacher and VILS coach collaborate to develop and implement lessons that incorporate various technologies, such as using iPads for viewing 3D objects, virtual field trips, and augmented reality experiences. This hands-on approach to learning has proven effective, as students become more invested and engaged, leading to meaningful connections and enhanced learning outcomes.
Mater Academy prioritized Collaboration as the theme for this year's professional development sessions led by Erin West via Zoom. Teachers actively participated in breakout rooms, Zoom chat, Padlet, and other interactive tools during these sessions. Following the live Zoom sessions, teachers further reinforced their learning through self-paced modules. These opportunities to learn from both the Digital Promise Team and fellow teachers have been highly valued and appreciated by the Mater Academy community.
During the 2022-2023 School Year, over 100 hours of professional development activities were proposed to support and train our faculty and staff. Twelve of the sessions, marked in pink, were directly related to support teachers with devices and were provided by our partners at Digital promise, our own teacher leaders, and our Genius Squad.
Self Reflection on the Element: Aligning
Strengths: Capturing and utilizing teacher input effectively to support them and achieve school goals.
Next Steps: Include gathering student feedback to enhance support for teachers and improve the school overall.
