Professional Ethics

CONFIDENTIALITY

Demonstrate the ability to keep school/district information confidential. All student records and reports should be handled with care. They are maintained in order to provide information on child development for the profession staff. It is essential that, as a guest teacher, you are careful not to divulge any confidential information which has been received from contact with children and other staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The guest teacher will dignify the profession at all times by maintaining an attitude of cooperation with associates, respecting the authority of those in administrative positions, following rules that may apply at individual sites, and by maintaining high standards of loyalty, professionalism and service.

DISCERNMENT

The individuality of the teachers for whom you substitute is to be respected at all times. Styles and methods of instruction will vary throughout the district. To the best of your ability follow the guidelines/lesson plans/instructions left by the regular teacher. If you are not able to do so, seek help of an administrative person at the site. Personal criticisms or classroom comparisons should not be discussed with others. Acceptance, not criticism, will go far to make your teaching assignment more pleasant for you and others.

Profane language is unacceptable at any time.

Dress should be appropriate to your assignment and in keeping with the attire of the local professional community.

CONSEQUENCES

Teachers or principal(s) have the authority and responsibility to monitor and report any guest teacher who fails to comply with Desert Sands' policies, procedures or practices. It is important to hold guest teachers to the same legal, professional and ethical standards that is expect from regular classroom teachers.
