What's In Activity (3 minutes only)

It’s hard to evaluate the quality, value, and appropriateness of the peer’s existing website in the modular modality of learning due to CoVid 2019 pandemic. It is because there are a few factors to consider before evaluating the students’ websites. Some students don’t have cell phones with Android OS. Some students have cell phones with Android OS but their location is a dead spot. Some students have cell phones with Android OS but they cannot afford to subscribe to the prepaid or postpaid internet connection. These are only a few reasons why the competency, “Evaluate the quality, value, and appropriateness of peer’s existing or previously developed ICT content (website creation) concerning the theme or intended audience/ viewer of an ICT project” is optional. Well, the writer of the Self- Learning Home Tasks (SLHTs) contextualizes the contents.

Can you first identify the peers' existing or previously developed ICT contents?

Review (5 minutes only)

We can collaborate in creating our original or derivative ICT contents such as Presentation/visualization (Prezi, Soho, Slideshare), Cloud Computing (Google Drive, Dropbox), Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr), Web Page Creation (Wix, Webs, WordPress, Weebly), File Management (zamsar, word2pdf), Mapping (Google Maps, Wikimapia) using online creation tools, platforms, and applications. The purpose of this competency is to empower us to effectively communicate messages related to specific professional tracks that shall be carefully designed. Then, the grammar structure and the logical presentation of our ideas shall also be carefully analyzed and evaluated.

during CoVid 2019 Pandemic

Well, the writer of the Self-Learning Home Tasks (SLHTs) contextualizes the contents. It is the prerogative of the subject teacher or writer in Empowerment Technologies to prepare the SLHTs which have two options intended for students with internet connection and students without internet connection.

For students who have a cell phone with Android OS and an internet connection, you need to evaluate the quality of peer/student’s website and value the following criteria: Design, Navigability, Authority, Bias, Citations, Dates, Content, Links, Handicapped access, and Relevance.

Design. The design of the student's website should have excellent organization; it has clear and free of errors; it can load quickly and completely. For example, if the viewers may browse the interactive web pages of the website it may only take from 1-3 seconds then the infographics, pictures, and online forms are well supported by any of the browsers.

Navigability. The navigability of the student's website should be logical and clear; the site map and search engine are available. For example, the Home page shall have the site map and if the web page has published documents, it is necessary to create the search engine or search box on its display.

Authority. The well-regarded author provides all necessary information; the site is linked to by others. For example, the website has a footer with the name, position, and address of the developer or author. The name, position, and address of the author or developer shall also be coded or encoded at the body frame of the Home page.

Bias. The site presents multiple viewpoints with no bias. For example, the author shall interview all parties if he or she is writing an article that involves persons, offices, agencies, judicial entities, and other instrumentalities.

Citations. All sources are properly cited, full bibliography, with active links. For example, if the student shall publish his or her thesis or research paper utilizing the webpage, he or she shall have to cite the name of the author, year of publication, the title of the book, ebook or journal, and the Unique Resource Locator (URL) link. And the date of journal retrieval shall also be included. A disclaimer shall also be indicated below the picture or infographics or article or paragraph adapted from other online sources.

Dates. The site contains creation, update, and data collection of dates for all key information. For example, if the news article is published, the date of publication of the news article must be indicated.

Content. Data quality is unquestioned, and quantity provides excellent coverage. For example, if the student develops the school paper publication, therefore all contents are about the school activities. The editorial staff is in charge of the proofreading and editing of all articles or compositions.

Links. The website shall have active links to a wide variety of excellent sites. For example, the school paper publication shall have links to the school, district, division, and DepEd websites. These sites shall be linked through hypertexts or hyperlinks utilizing the logo or product brands.

Handicapped access. The site includes handicapped options on all pages and links to support software. For example, the professional website or the school paper publication can link the downloadable software to be used by handicapped persons.

Relevance. The site exceeds all instructional objectives. For example, the site has linked other websites for teaching and learning or related professional tracks.

The above guidelines could help us in evaluating the quality, value, and appropriateness of peers’ existing or previously developed ICT content such as a website or blog site about the theme or intended audience/viewer of an ICT project.
