Why Do We Need Classroom Websites?
Second language learners can learn English language through the use of the classroom website. According to Gardner (1983), an educational theorist stated “the virtual developments are linked in the Worldwide Web that would enhance opportunities to help learners understand from a diverse environment. “Gardner stated that teaching with the use of technology is the virtual innovation that teachers can do in school.“They can collaboratively create classroom websites to be used in teaching and learning without the use of programming language for free using the free sub-domain.”
Lori Holcomb et. al (2007) discussed that these profound changes at home and at work are gradually being mirrored in our classrooms as nations seek to prepare their students for the literacy and learning requirements of life in an age of information and communication as it was also cited by (Leu & Kinzer, 2000). In addition, it was also cited in the journal (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2003) thatteachers who develop classroom websites demonstrate a commitment to preparing students for participation in a growing technologically-literate world. They believed that the use of ICTs calls for fundamental change in the ways we teach as it was also cited by (Leu, 2000).
According to (Alexander & Jetton, 2002; Bransford, Brown, & Cocking, 2000) that since academic achievement is dependent on theability to read, comprehend, and communicate at high levels and they further stated that since the Internet is increasingly used in school classrooms for information and communication, it is essential that research begin to study the connection between online literacyand learning in school classrooms. They believed that classroom websites can help teachers enhance these new literacies skills at school and parents to support and reinforce them at home
In addition, as cited by Lori Holcomb et.al. (2007) that websites provide teachers with venues to exchange ideas with other teachers, showcase curricular projects and student work, and involve parents with ways to extend learning at home. They further stated that developing classroom websites and using them for instructional purposes provide the essential practice of students, as it is required in order to develop the skills, strategies, and dispositions necessary for successful participation in the information age.
With the use of the classroom website, the objectives can easily be presented to students; in a form of video presentation, motivation can easily be facilitated; through online slides, topics or competencies can easily be outlined or discussed; with the use of ICT equipment, teaching approaches and strategies can easily be accomplished; and through online quizzes, assessment can easily be checked using the point system from the Google Form. And you can easily link other educational websites to support the teaching and learning process. Fortunately, students are free to download documents and browse some credible links. Parents can easily monitor classroom activities of students and help their kids. Teachers can easily share and collaborate their localized resources. Then, administrators and other DepEd personnel can also monitor the established teaching routines and strategies of teachers everyday by browsing the navigational menu, DLP. Classroom website innovation is the total package for teaching and learning process.
