The Campus Journalism Act of 1991 (Republic Act 7079) promulgates the development of journalism among the Filipinos at the school level. The kids as early as grade school age are easily exposed to the social media where fake news proliferates, and there is a need therefore for the children to learn how to differentiate the real from fake news. With this pressing need of developing young learners to write, Project PENS (Pupil Enrichment by Nurturing Scribes) is an answer.
Corollary to this, the Department of Education conducts yearly press conferences in different levels and the teachers are the primary source of learning. The teachers play a big role as the kids embark on the rudiments of journalism. Truly writers are not made overnight. It takes some time to make one and constant practice is a must. With this, Project PENS (Pupil Enrichment by Nurturing Scribes) may answer the call to develop writers.
