The foundation of all Science and Technology courses is Mathematics. Learning Mathematics does not only provide knowledge and information about the world around man but also serves as the key to technological advances that leads him to happier life.

In most schools throughout the world, the students’ ability to learn Mathematics has been the concern of Mathematics educators and teachers. Opportunities on students’ ability to grasp Mathematics concepts have long been addressed and many research studies have been conducted to discover the reasons for low achievements among the students in Mathematics.

To address these concerns, Mathematics teachers are advised to provide pupils with meaningful experiences to develop positive attitude toward Mathematics.

Year in and year out, NAT results reveal that one of the least mastered competencies in Mathematics 6 is Finding the Volume of Cubes, Prisms, Cylinders, Pyramids, Cones, and Spheres and Solving Routine and Non-routine Problems involving Volumes of Solids. This is further confirmed with the result of the pretest conducted among the three classes last February18,2021. The pretest results were as follows:

6-SPED 73.88%; 6-Amethyst 59.64% and 6-Sapphire 56.28%. These data are way behind what is ideal and acceptable.

The proponent focused on the skills not mastered by the pupils during the regular class. The skills in Mathematics which pupils are not yet competent based on the individual competency card for the Fourth Quarter is in the area of finding the Volume of Cubes, Prisms, Cylinders, Pyramids, Cones, and Spheres and Solving Routine and Non-routine Problems involving Volumes of Solids. This is the core basis for crafting activity sheets which focuses only on the particular competency intended for remediation.

While it's true that some activity sheets dealing with the same competencies are available in the LR portal and were used by the learners, the proponent finds it necessary to give the children more exercises to enhance their skills in the aforementioned learning competencies.

With this, the proponent has come up with this instructional material titled, Learning Activity Sheets Towards Independence of Kids in Mathematics (LASTIK Math).
