Eve took the Gold!

Girls speed skating: DJ Storh

The racers started off by racing around the track and had trial races to warm up. Then the first race of the girls speed skating race started with Natalie from Europe and Reese from America. Reese took the inside quick from being on the outside and had won the race by just a little bit. Reese then advanced to the next race against Eve.

In the second round, Eve took the lead very quickly and won the race by a lap advancing to the gold and silver race. The next race before the bronze race was Abby vs Cali and Abby had a good fall but got up and Calli still won. The bronze race was Abby, Cali took silver and Eve took gold for Oceana.

I interviewed Evan who took gold in the boys speed skate race. He said he had lots of fun and had a problem with his wheel on his rollerblade and had gotten further than he had thought. Oceana took two gold medals in today's winter olympic activity.

Girls Speed Skating: Pierson brings home another gold for Australia

After the boys competition, the girls prepared for the skating competition. A not so confident Eve Pierson ended up taking home the gold, to her surprise. The first competition was Natalie Haulk from Europe against Reese Monnier from the Americas. Reese took an early lead, and despite Natalie’s efforts to keep up, Reese crossed the finish line first, leading her to the next round.

The next match was first round winner Reese Monnier against the talented Eve Pierson from Australia. Eve immediately was off to an early lead. Reese did well, trying her hardest to keep up, but in the end, Eve cruised to the victory, earning her spot in the final round.

Next was the round to see who Eve would be facing. Abby Coleman from Africa was up against a very confident Callie Hanscom from Asia. Abby was not as confident in her ability. Abby stayed neck and neck with callie in the beginning, but when she fell on one of the turns, it was over, and Callie skated across the finish line, putting her against Eve in the final round.

In the bronze medal round, Abby Coleman faced Reese Monnier. They were neck and neck from the beginning, until Reese fell to the ground, and Abby took the lead. Just as Reese was catching up, the slippery corner took another victim, and Abby was once again ahead. Abby took the bronze medal in the end, but it was not for a lack of effort on Reese’s part.

In the final round, the last match up was Callie Hanscom against Eve Pierson. Immediately, Eve took the lead, but it wasn’t totally over for Callie, she could still catch up. However, before too long, Eve’s lead became too much, and she brought home another gold for Australia.
