Snowshoe Distance Girls

(Dedham, Me)

On the snowy Dedham Athletic Fields on the morning of February 17, it was a nice warm day for the Olympic Snowshoe Distance race. The contestants never gave up throughout the competition. The contestants that are in the snowshoe distance are Natalie and Ashlyn from Europe, Anna and Alivia from Asia, Hailee and Reece from S. America, Laura and Violet from Australia, and last but not least Abby and Sophia from Africa.

In a field of 10 competitors, the race started off strong with all the competitors on the field, the first fall of the day happened within a few minutes of the race by Sophia, but she was able to get back up and keep going strong. The first person out of the woods on the bike loop was Natalie, the following shortly behind Laura, and following behind that was Anna.

Spoke to many people after the race to find out the conditions of the trail. Most of the contestants said that the trail was wet in most places and was somewhat confusing. But for the most part. It wasn't difficult, it was more icy and slushy than anything. A few of the competitors I talked to said after the race that they were tired but they had a lot of fun competing.

The final results to the race were, tied for first place with Natalie and Laura, for second place Anna, For third place Hailee, in 4th place Reece, In 5th place Abby, In 6th place Ashlyn, in 7th place Violet, in 8th place Alivia and last but not least 9th place Sophia. Nice Job to all contestants.
