Girls' Snowshoe Sprint

Gold Medalist: Silver Medalist: Bronze Medalist: Maggie Prentiss from Europe

It was a brisk breezy morning and the sun was shining through the clouds. It was just wonderful. The race had 10 ladies all determined to bring home the gold. It was a close race with the finalists being Maggie Prentiss from Europe, Callie Hanscom from Asia, and Julia Turner from Europe. Callie and Julie were neck and neck with Maggie coming up close from the behind. Julia finished first, then came Callie, and with the 3rd place spot came a triumphant Maggie. When asked how she felt about the race, an exhausted gold medal winning Julia remarked “great”. Maggie when asked how she felt said “I felt amazing, that was so cool.” Maggie also told me prior to the event that she was nervous and worried about the race because she was unprepared after the short notice. Another thing she told me is that snowshoeing was not her strong suit. Callie said “I felt pretty good… overall I thought I did pretty good.” All ladies did an amazing job and tried their hardest. Overall it was a fast paced race that was over in the blink of an eye. Report by Alivia McGarvey

Girls' Snowshoe Sprint

By: Evan

It was a very crisp day in February when the 10 women athletes lined up for the exciting event of snowshoe sprinting. The day was windy and cold but they were all ready to give it their all.

The Girls Snowshoe sprint race was very quick and entertaining. There were a total of ten women athletes that participated in this event coming from 5 different continents around the world; Africa, the Americas, Europe, Australia/Oceania, and Asia. The athletes in this event included Sophie Eckmann from Oceania, Chloe Davis from Oceania, Sophia Bywater from Africa, Julia Turner from Europe, Callie Hanscom from Asia, Kiersten Daigle from Africa, Ayda Prentiss from the Americas, Ainsley Goodwin from Asia, Amelia Turner from the Americas, and finally Maggie Prentiss.

Snowshoe sprint is a hard thing to do, but these girls seemed to be right on top of things on this cold, windy day. It was a very close race between the athletes, but Julia Turner from Europe came out on top and took the gold medal for her country.

Each contestant also had some words to say after the race, reporting how they felt about the race and how they performed. The winner of the Girls Snowshoe Sprint; Julia Turner, said that she was accomplished, while others were not as proud of themselves compared to other people.

With the race only lasting 20 seconds, it shows how fast the girls were going, because snowshoeing is 1.7 times slower than walking or running, so you would have to have very strong legs and long strides to make it very far fast enough to get on the podium.

The girls’ race was very fast and entertaining, with all 10 athletes coming within seconds of each other. In the end however, Julia Turner was able to just pass everyone else and come up on top with the gold medal. In the end, all athletes were interviewed, with the winner, Julia Turner, saying: “I feel accomplished”
