Varsity football lost on a last second touchdown to Barlow at homecoming on Oct. 4, 7-6.

Douglas started off strong, holding the Bruins to zero points in the first quarter, though Barlow had done the same.

The Scots had a dominant rushing offense, led by senior running back Kelani Massad, who had the only touchdown for Douglas in the game towards the three minute mark of the second quarter.

The Scots went for two, and failed. Senior kicker, wide receiver and defensive back Liam Roberson has been hurt, so the Scots were without a kicker.

In the middle of the second quarter, the Douglas defense was stacked against their own goal line, but that didn’t stop them from making the Bruins turn it over on downs. It started with a Bruins fumble that backed them from the one to the four yard line, then a number of run stops that helped the Scots keep the Bruins from scoring.

At the end of the first half, Barlow threw an interception that the Scots rumbled down to the 19 yard line before being tackled.

In the second half, Massad left the game injured and did not return.

The second half was much like the first. With little offensive momentum by both sides, it was a standoff of which defense could prevail and help their teams get the win. That was until the final drive of the game.

Barlow started their drive with 5:12 left in the fourth quarter and drove the ball to score with no time left on the clock. The extra point was good, giving the Scots a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the Bruins, though on the game winning play, there were speculations that the ball was not caught.

David Douglas had 211 total yards to Barlow’s 282, 52 passing yards to Barlow’s 137, and 159 rushing yards to Barlow’s 145.

The Scots’ next game is against Reynolds on Thursday Oct. 10th and the Scots are hoping to bounce back.
