Documenting AT in Project Education
Assistive Technology Specialist
Sarah Reid, MA, ECSE
As a native of Colorado, I have had the joys of learning all that Colorado has to offer over the years. After graduating from University of Northern Colorado, with my Bachelor of Science in Human Rehabilitative Services I soon was introduced to my first teaching job at Colorado High School Charter in Denver, Colorado. In 2007, when I first joined the AT-SWAAAC team in Douglas County, I had no idea how much my professional career was about to grow. Soon after joining the team, I obtained my Special Education Teacher License and my Masters in Early Childhood Special Education from University of Colorado Denver. After working on the SWAAAC team for 8 years, and pregnant with my second child, I decided to contract with Developmental Pathways as a Developmental Interventionist, allowing me to flex my time in order to be a little more available to my two young children. During my time in Early Intervention, I have had the pleasure of continuing to support families and their children with their cognitive, social emotional and AT/AAC needs. In 2022, I feel grateful to be hired back into Douglas County and able to learn and grow with the Child Find team as I bring my Part C evaluation experience with me. It just so happens that a role in the Early Childhood Education department opened up an opportunity to support the AT/SWAAC team with an early childhood perspective. Along with the joys of learning all that assistive technology and assessments/screens have to offer, I enjoy taking mountain trips with my family, gardening, and watching my children learn all that the world has to offer them.
