Documenting AT in Project Education
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) of 2004 requires Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to consider the potential need for assistive technology (AT) devices and/or services for a student at every initial evaluation, annual review, or re-evaluation. To support this process, school teams may request assistance from the SWAAAC team when considering AT for a specific student or situation. SWAAAC team members collaborate with school staff using the SETT framework to guide the consideration of AT needs. Since the consideration of AT is mandated at every IEP meeting, SWAAAC’s overarching goal is to build the capacity of school teams to independently and effectively carry out this process.
