DCSD's SWAAAC team is staffed and supported through the Student Support Services Department. SWAAAC collaborates with school teams to support DCSD students with high and low-incidence disabilities including complex communication needs. MEET THE TEAM
The mission of the SWAAAC team is to build the school team’s capacity to consider and implement assistive technology so that each student can reach their individual potential.
DCSD SWAAAC team strives to maximize the potential of all learners by ensuring that each student who requires Assistive Technology will receive the equipment and services needed to assist in bridging the achievement gap, gaining life skills, and accessing the curriculum. It is the collective responsibility of a school team to successfully integrate Universal Design of Learning and Assistive Technology Tools for students.
The Colorado Department of Education’s school-based SWAAAC teams provides multidisciplinary Assistive Technology services to enable students with disabilities equal access to the curriculum and full participation in their education and classroom. There are over 60 participating school districts and 500 SWAAAC team members across the state of Colorado.
