Sara Rode lives to think outside the box with Assistive Technology and complex communication needs. She is a passionate cheerleader and advocate for presuming potential in all learners. She may or may not have encouraged her team to embrace their inner chicken and work within. Sara was 12 years old when she knew that she would pursue a career in speech pathology. Sara wanted to help kids communicate like her cousin's SLP helped him communicate despite his challenges with autism. Sara’s formal education started at the University of Colorado, Boulder where she received a BA in Speech, Language and Hearing Science, and then continued at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley where she received a Masters in Speech Pathology. Sara completed her clinical fellowship year at JFK Partners working with children and adults with autism and developmental disabilities. She is trained in a wide variety of low and high tech assistive technology equipment, devices, and software. Sara specializes in Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Augmentative Alternative Communication, Assistive Technology and Complex Communication Needs. Sara is CASANA Recognized for Advanced Training and Clinical Expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Sara has presented at state and national conferences for AAC and Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Sara loves working with children using technology. She is amazed to see the changes that happen when a child has access to assistive technology. Sara is into following the law, chickens, rescue dogs, and baking, not in that order.
