Independent Projects in Engineering (IPIE)
4 Semesters - 11, & 12th Graders
Description:
Expectations: Students will be expected to complete a series of hands-on problem solving projects, engage a mentor and review current issues in the theories and area of their study, create a portfolio and conduct progress meetings with instructor and class, present outcomes using multiple media to the program participants and school community, and complete a final large scale project based on the chosen engineering or technology field of study.

Note:
Class meets as a mini period and are expected to participate in lab time independently
Students participate in the STEM Outreach elemtary program
Students will be accountable for independent work on alternate days of the cycle.
Course Objectives:
To apply engineering principles to creatively and uniquely solve real-world problems and challenges.
To gain an understanding of technology and engineering principles.
To think outside of the box and explore the world of engineering and design.
To learn the basics of sketching so ideas and problem-solving skills can be presented graphically.
To effectively communicate both visually and orally, ideas and plans.
To gain experience using programs that are actually used in the engineering and design industries.
