Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back! We hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable break. It was wonderful to reconnect with everyone, and we are so happy to have the children back with us and ready for a new week of learning, growth, and fun.

We had an amazing first week back filled with smiles, laughter, and positive energy. The children settled back into their routines beautifully and were excited to see their friends, teachers, and familiar spaces again. It was truly heartwarming to watch them jump back into activities with such enthusiasm and confidence.

Week in Review

instructional Update: Reading Annotations

In December, our 3rd–6th graders took SMC 2, and when teachers reviewed the data this week, there was a lot to celebrate—especially in Math, where students did a great job showing their thinking on paper through what we call “Screen to Scratch.”

One area of opportunity we noticed is in Reading, where some students are still learning how to take helpful notes while they read, which supports comprehension and writing strong ECRs. To address this, we rolled out a schoolwide reading annotation plan so students across all grades are learning how to write brief, meaningful notes that help them understand what they read and use that understanding to answer questions and write. You can see in the pictures below that students write their annotations on the left, and on the right, they answer the comprehension questions.

Families can support this at home by pausing during reading and asking, “What was that page or paragraph mostly about?”

Message from Primary Guides

Our Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 students will soon be taking the CIRCLE assessment, a developmentally appropriate tool that helps us understand each child’s growth in early reading, language, math, and social-emotional skills. The assessment is done one-on-one in a relaxed, child-friendly setting and feels more like a conversation or activity than a test. Guides will review each child’s results and progress with families during upcoming family conferences, so you’ll be able to see both strengths and next steps for your child’s learning.

Black History Month Talent Showcase – Sign Up Now!

Prestonwood Montessori at E.D. Walker, in partnership with B-Fam (BIPOC Family Alliance for Montessori), presents the Black History Month Talent Showcase on Friday, February 27, from 5:30–7:00 PM at the E.D. Walker Auditorium.

✨ ALL students are welcome to participate.
Students may perform singing, dancing, poetry, instruments, comedy, spoken word, and more. Performances may be old or new, as long as they are inspired by Black artists, Black history, or Black cultural traditions.

This year’s theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” honors 100 years of celebrating Black excellence through student creativity, culture, and community.

Exhibición de Talentos del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana – ¡Inscríbase Hoy!

Prestonwood Montessori en E.D. Walker, en colaboración con B-Fam (BIPOC Family Alliance for Montessori), presenta la Exhibición de Talentos del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana el viernes 27 de febrero, de 5:30 a 7:00 PM, en el Auditorio E.D. Walker.

✨ TODOS los estudiantes están invitados a participar.

Los estudiantes pueden presentar canto, baile, poesía, instrumentos, comedia, expresión oral y más. Las presentaciones pueden ser tradicionales o contemporáneas, siempre que estén inspiradas en artistas afroamericanos, la historia afroamericana o tradiciones culturales afroamericanas.

🎉 Wheelie Fun Night is rolling our way! 🎉

Wheelie Fun Night is PWM’s version of a carnival, happening on March 28 from 2:00–5:00 PM! We’re looking for volunteers to help make it a huge success.

Join us for our first planning meeting on January 13, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the school library. We’ll get organized, assign tasks, and get the fun rolling.
