The Extension Services Office and the Department of Industrial and Information Technology (DIIT) of Cavite State University – Carmona Campus successfully conducted the webinar “ConnectED: Understanding Network Systems and Connectivity Basics” on December 04, 2025 (Thursday), from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, as part of the CvSUCCESS’ TO-SERVE Project. The activity aimed to equip participants with foundational knowledge of computer networking while emphasizing practical, hands-on learning and community-oriented applications.
The program formally commenced with the virtual welcoming of participants, followed by the opening rites, including the Prayer, the Philippine National Anthem, the Cavite Hymn, and the Carmona Hymn, presented through an audio-visual presentation (AVP). In his welcome remarks, Mr. Jhumel C. Ignas, leader of the TO-SERVE Project and department extension coordinator, underscored the importance of equipping individuals and communities with essential technical skills that support education, livelihood, and innovation. He further emphasized that the ConnectED initiative seeks to make networking and related technologies more accessible and meaningful, particularly for aspiring learners and prospective community partners.
The webinar featured a series of technical discussions led by Engr. Ricarte Jay Ravina, faculty extensionist, who discussed the fundamentals of networking, including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and basic connectivity principles. He also explained the functions and roles of common network devices such as routers, switches, and access points in building efficient and reliable network systems.
After a short health break, Engr. Ravina continued with a discussion on IP addressing, simplifying the concepts of IP addresses and basic subnetting through practical examples. To reinforce learning, a virtual network setup demonstration was conducted, allowing participants to observe how network components are configured in a simulated environment.
The sessions continued with a discussion on basic network troubleshooting, where common connectivity issues and simple fixes were presented. The latter part of the program focused on safe and efficient network practices, emphasizing security basics, responsible network use, and practical applications in home and community settings.
This session seamlessly transitioned into the Community Application Talk delivered by Engr. John Earl Gatpo, BS Computer Engineering alumnus, highlighting how networking skills can be utilized for educational support, small projects, and local initiatives, while also strengthening alumni engagement in extension activities.
A question-and-answer session followed, providing participants with the opportunity to clarify technical concerns and engage in further discussion.
Certificates were subsequently awarded, and participants were formally acknowledged for their active involvement. Engr. John Benneth C. Abuan, faculty extensionist, delivered the closing remarks, commending the collaborative efforts of organizers, facilitators, alumni, and participants in ensuring the success of the webinar.
The program officially concluded with the playing of the CvSU Hymn, marking the successful completion of the ConnectED webinar—an initiative that reaffirmed CvSU Carmona’s commitment to quality education, community empowerment, and sustainable development through technology.
