The Extension Services Office and the Department of Industrial and Information Technology of Cavite State University (CvSU) – Carmona Campus, in collaboration with the City Government of Carmona, successfully conducted the “TechSTART: Navigating the Essentials of Computers” training on November 29, 2024, at CvSU-Carmona. This event, held under CvSUCCESS’ TO-SERVE (Technical Opportunities to Support, Empower, and Value the Community) Project, aimed to equip participants with foundational knowledge of computer systems, their functions, types, and peripherals.
The program began with a warm welcome from Mr. Jhumel C. Ignas, project leader and department extension coordinator, who underscored the critical role of computer literacy in bridging the digital divide. To set the tone for the day, a pre-assessment was administered by the assessment committee to evaluate participants’ initial understanding, ensuring that the sessions would be tailored to their learning needs.
Dr. Mark Anthony R. Abril, project staff member, spearheaded the technical discussions that followed. The morning session introduced the essential components of a computer system, focusing on hardware and software fundamentals to help participants grasp the building blocks of technology. This was followed by an exploration of basic computer functions and their practical applications in daily life and work. The afternoon delved deeper, with discussions on the various types of computers and their uses, as well as an in-depth look at peripherals, highlighting how external devices enhance a computer’s functionality. Throughout the sessions, engaging Q&A segments provided an interactive platform for participants to clarify concepts, share experiences, and deepen their understanding.
The training culminated with a post-assessment, which revealed significant improvements in the participants’ knowledge, validating the program’s impact. Certificates of participation were awarded to recognize their active participation and dedication. In her closing remarks, Ms. Janine B. Bacosmo, program leader and campus extension services coordinator, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the attendees, organizers, and resource speaker for their unwavering commitment to the success of the event.
This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of dedicated faculty extensionists from the Extension Services Office and the Department of Industrial and Information Technology of CvSU-Carmona. The team, composed of Mr. Ignas, Ms. Bacosmo, Dr. Abril, Dr. Regene G. Hernandez, Asst. Prof. Rochelle C. Malabayabas, Asst. Prof. Jonell V. Ocampo, Asst. Prof. Joe Marlou A. Opella, Mr. Alonel A.
