In line with its mission to provide relevant digital literacy programs, Cavite State University – Carmona Campus successfully delivered a two-part training workshop titled “TechSHEET: Simplifying Data with Spreadsheets” on July 10 and 17, 2025, held at Room 106. This initiative, under the CvSUCCESS TO-SERVE Project, was spearheaded by the Extension Services Office and the Department of Industrial and Information Technology (DIIT), with the goal of enhancing the community’s proficiency in spreadsheet tools for data management, analysis, and presentation.
The training formally opened on July 10 with an audiovisual presentation of the Philippine National Anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn, followed by opening remarks from Mr. Jhumel C. Ignas, project leader of TO-SERVE and DIIT extension coordinator. A pre-assessment was then conducted to measure the participants’ initial understanding of MS Excel.
The technical session was facilitated by Ms. Jackelyn R. Murallon, a BSIT alumna and DIIT faculty extensionist. She began with Topic 1: Getting Started with Excel, introducing the interface, basic navigation, and essential functions. This was followed by a deep dive into Topic 2: Data Entry and Formatting, where participants learned to input and organize data effectively while applying formatting tools to enhance readability. After the lunch break, the session resumed with Topic 3: Basic Formulas and Functions, equipping attendees with foundational skills in performing computations using Excel's built-in formulas.
The day concluded with a post-assessment to evaluate participants’ learning, followed by the awarding of certificates and closing remarks from Dr. Regene G. Hernandez, DIIT chairperson.
The second session, held on July 17, followed a similar flow. The day began with the morning preliminaries, then proceeded with the opening message from Dr. Hernandez. Another round of pre-assessment was conducted to prepare for the more advanced topics.
The discussion was led by Ms. Janine B. Bacosmo, program leader of CvSUCCESS and DIIT faculty extensionist. She started with Topic 4: Sorting, Filtering, and Conditional Formatting, guiding participants on how to manage and analyze datasets more effectively. The session then moved to Topic 5: Charts and Data Visualization, where learners explored visual tools like graphs and charts to present data meaningfully. After the lunch break, the training wrapped up with Topic 6: Page Layout and Printing, focusing on preparing spreadsheets for professional output through layout adjustments and print settings.
As with the first session, a post-assessment was administered, followed by the distribution of certificates and closing remarks from Mr. Ignas.
The success of the TechSHEET training was made possible through the collaborative efforts of dedicated faculty extensionists and student volunteers, including Mr. John Benneth C. Abuan, Mr. Jonell V. Ocampo, Dr. Mark Anthony R. Abril, Mr. Antonino Jose L. Bayson, Mr. Daryl Lyndon T. Supan, Mr. Alonel A. Hugo, Asst. Prof. Rochelle C.
