Cavite State University – Carmona Campus, through the Extension Services Office and Department of Teacher Education, in partnership with the Future Educators' Society, successfully conducted "Touch to Teach: Foundational Braille Literacy Training for Inclusive Education" on December 13, 2025. The activity aimed to equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills to effectively support learners who are blind or visually impaired.
The program commenced with registration and technical preparation, followed by an audio-visual presentation of the Prayer, Philippine National Anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn, setting a reflective and collaborative atmosphere. Asst. Prof. Jocelyn B. Siochi, chairperson, delivered the welcome remarks and program overview, emphasizing the critical role of inclusive practices in advancing equitable access to quality education.
A pre-assessment facilitated by the Assessment Committee established participants’ baseline understanding of Braille literacy. Ms. Omega Gresola, faculty extensionist, formally introduced the resource speaker, leading into the core sessions facilitated by Ms. Ronalyn M. Manongsong, resource speaker. The Basic Braille Literacy Discussion provided participants with an overview of Braille fundamentals, while the succeeding hands-on training allowed guided practice in reading and writing Braille symbols. These sessions were reinforced through interactive discussions on inclusive strategies applicable in both classroom and home settings.
Participants actively engaged in an open forum and reflection activity, sharing insights on how Braille literacy promotes independence, accessibility, and meaningful learning experiences for students with special needs. The participant sharing and presentation of outputs highlighted the development of practical competencies and increased confidence in facilitating inclusive literacy instruction.
The training concluded with a post-assessment and evaluation, followed by the awarding of certificates and acknowledgment of participants. Ms. Janine B. Bacosmo, campus extension coordinator, delivered the closing remarks, reaffirming the department’s commitment to sustained extension initiatives that empower educators, families, and communities in advancing inclusive education.
