RECENT ACTIVITES
05/02 & 09/2025
Cavite State University – Carmona Campus, through its Department of Arts and Sciences (DAS) and under the CvSUCCESS’ Project AKKaP, successfully launched the first two sessions of its community training initiative, titled “Power Up: Basic Computer Skills Training”, aimed at equipping residents of Carmona City, Cavite with essential computer literacy and digital skills. The activity, which brought together out-of-school youth, jobseekers, and other community members, focused on building foundational knowledge in computer usage and productivity tools to improve participants’ employability and digital confidence.
The first session, held on May 2, 2025, opened with a prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, Cavite Hymn, and Carmona Hymn. Participants were welcomed by Asst. Prof. Ron Erik C. Frontuna, project leader of Project AKKaP and extension coordinator of DA. A pre-assessment was conducted to measure participants’ existing knowledge in computer literacy. The session continued with Mr. John Benneth C. Abuan, faculty extensionist, delivering two key topics: Understanding the Basics of Computers and Operating System and File Management. These covered essential concepts such as computer components, file navigation, and data organization. Each topic concluded with a post-assessment to evaluate learning progress. The day ended with an open forum and insights-sharing activity, followed by closing remarks from Asst. Prof. Robert Jan R. Bayan, project staff and extension coordinator-alternate of DAS, who expressed appreciation for the active participation and encouraged attendees to continue their learning journey.
The second session took place on May 9, 2025, and focused on introducing participants to Google Docs and its practical uses. The program began with the usual opening formalities and remarks from Asst. Prof. Shiela L. Vidallon, project staff and chairperson of DAS. A pre-assessment evaluated participants’ familiarity with Google Docs, followed by a hands-on session facilitated by Ms. Janine B. Bacosmo, program leader of CvSUCCESS and campus extension services coordinator. Her topic, Exploring Google Docs: Fundamentals and Interface Basics, taught participants how to create, edit, and format documents using Google’s cloud-based platform. For the post-assessment activity, attendees were tasked with creating a resume—an exercise that helped solidify their understanding of the platform while providing a practical output they could use beyond the training. An open forum followed, where participants shared their experiences and expressed newfound confidence in applying their skills. The session concluded with the awarding of certificates to recognize participants' efforts and progress.
The third session is scheduled for May 16, 2025, with additional continuation sessions planned for July 2025. These upcoming activities will further strengthen participants’ digital competencies and expand their knowledge of productivity tools and applications.
This successful initiative was made possible not only by the faculty organizers and facilitators but also through the invaluable support of student extensionists who provided technical assistance and learning support throughout the training. CvSU-Carmona extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Rovick James B. Samson (BS Business Administration), Mr. Andy L. Balmaceda (BS Information Technology), Ms. Larrah Jane Manzo (BS Computer Engineering), Ms. Juliana D. Martillano (BS Computer Engineering), Mr. Ivan Christian M.
