The BMC lockers located in Hedy's Hangout are the primary storage space for university owned instruments. As such, locker use will be prioritized for those that will be using a university instrument during the academic year. A small number of lockers (less than 10) are available for students to store their personal instruments.
The BMC lockers are university owned, and are not a students private space while they are being rented. Music department staff and authorized student workers may access the locker at any time.
At the start of each semester, please fill out the Locker & University Instrument Check Out Form. The Orchestra Inventory Manager will be in touch with you via email about your locker assignment based on the following criteria:
Availability - lockers are first come, first served. If you send in a request too late in the semester, a locker may not be available to you.
Confirmation that the locker & instrument it contains will be used for an ensemble, techniques class or private lessons.
If your locker request is approved, you will receive your assigned locker number and locker combination. DO NOT SHARE YOUR COMBO WITH ANYONE.
At the end of each semester, it is required that you fill out the University Instrument Check In or Renewal Form.Â
Most students will be renewing their locker/instrument between the Fall and Spring semesters. Your locker and combo will remain the same.
For summer, most students will check in their locker and instrument. You will then repeat the Check Out process again at the start of the new school year.
If you would like to request use of the university instrument over the summer, indicate you'd like to renew your rental and the Orchestra Operations Coordinator will be in touch with you.
If you encounter an issue with your university instrument and it needs repair, please fill out the University Instrument Maintenance Request Form.
If assigned a locker, you agree to adhere to the following policies:
The locker will be used to store your instrument and music only. Mutes, stands or other instrument accessories may be stored if space allows.
Lockers must be kept clean. No food, drinks or trash are permitted.
Locks must remain on the locker at all times, and the locker must be locked when it is not in use.
Students who do not follow the stated locker procedures will be fined. Cash payment is due to the Orchestra Operations Coordinator or the Music Office Manager within one (1) week of the citation.
Circumstances that trigger a locker fine are as follows:
Lost Lock : $15 fine
Locker Cleaning Fee: $5 fine
This occurs if food, drink or trash is found in your locker. Fine doubles to $10 after one (1) week.
Unlocked Locker and/or Lock Removed from Locker
1st offense: $5 fine
2nd offense: $10 fine
3rd offense: $20 fine
On the 4th offense, a $40 fine must be paid and a meeting will be arranged with the student and Dr. Jeff Held to determine locker privileges and potential larger consequences going forward.
