Each student taking applied lessons will perform towards the end of the semester for their area director, their applied professor and other adjunct faculty. This is considered part of the final exam for the course (the other part is attending that semester’s Honors Recital). Each jury slot is 8-10 minutes long.
In addition to completing a course requirement, juries give students the following opportunities:
Qualify for promotion to the next lesson level
Qualify to perform in that semester's Honors Recital
Jury requirements and dates are set by each area director. Typically, an accompanied solo is required. Some additional technical studies, etudes or sight reading may also be required.
Students that are preparing a Degree Recital should be aware of the following:
The semester before your degree recital, make sure you sign up for two (2) jury slots. This acts as your Recital Check, and is a requirement to fully execute your recital.
Students that perform a Degree Recital are not required to play a jury in that same semester. However, by making that decision, you forfeit the opportunity to qualify for the Honors Recital. If you would like an opportunity to play in the Honors Recital, a jury must be performed.
