At the beginning of each semester an accompanist is assigned, where applicable, to each student taking applied lessons. At minimum, students will collaborate with their accompanist to prepare for their end of semester jury. Most will work with them to prepare Noon Recital performances as well, and Junior and senior music majors will work with them to prepare their degree recitals. Collaboration with an accompanist should take place early in the process of learning a solo and should continue throughout the semester until final preparations.
Students are required to meet with their assigned accompanist to prepare for their upcoming performance. All staff accompanists abide by the following policies regarding coaching sessions:
Coaching sessions are 15 minutes long. The maximum number of coaching sessions which voice/instrumental students may receive per semester are as follows:
Level 101: 2 sessions for non-majors, 4 for music majors/minors per semester
Level 201: 3 sessions for non-majors, 4 for music majors/minors per semester
Level 301: 6 sessions per semester
Level 401: 6 sessions per semester
Junior and Senior Recitalists may receive 12 sessions per semester
Accompanying services are provided by the University for studio classes, juries, Noon Recitals and Honors recitals. To receive these services, it is required that at least one (1) coaching session must be completed prior to the performance.
