All private lessons, designated in the catalog as “PL:___” at the 101, 201, 301, or 401 level, are assessed a tuition surcharge. The official tuition surcharge is expressed in the Concordia catalog, and supersedes the information below if there is a discrepancy. Students enrolled in an ensemble receive a preferential tuition surcharge structure - please see below. Applied classes, titled “___ Class” at the 100 level, do not incur a tuition surcharge.
The full tuition surcharge of $707 applies in the following situations:
■ the student is not enrolled in any university music ensemble.
■ the student is not a full-time student.
■ the student drops lessons after census date (student will be billed soon after)
■ the student drops any ensembles after census date (student will be billed soon after)
■ at least 3 lessons are missed and unexcused (student will be billed soon after)
The university subsidizes private lesson tuition for students enrolled in ensembles, resulting in the following tuition surcharges (applied upon registration):
■ $140 for one-unit private lessons
■ $430 for two-unit private lessons
Just as students need to purchase textbooks for any college class, there also is an expectation that students purchase learning materials to support the lessons: sheet music and technique books. They also must keep their instrument in healthy working condition, which requires additional cost (reeds, valve oil, water bottle, organ shoes, etc.).
