The Noon Recital Series is a collection of recitals that provide an opportunity for students to perform the repertoire they are studying in applied lessons. These recitals last no more than an hour and give a glimpse into all areas of study in the Music Department.
While it is titled the "Noon Recital Series," evolving university schedules dictate that some recitals are held at different times of the day. The typical scheduling is as follows:
Recitals held on Thursdays and Fridays begin at 12:10pm
Recitals held on Wednesdays begin at 10:30am
The full Noon Recital Series schedule will be determined and announced within the first month of each semester.
All students taking applied lessons are required to perform in one (1) Noon Recital per semester. This not only gives good performance experience, but also is a requirement to advance to the next lesson level.Â
Music Majors are typically assigned two (2) Noon Rectials per semester.
Recital Forms are due two (2) weeks before your assigned recital date(s). This form solidifies what repertoire you will be performing. Be sure to discuss your repertoire choice with your applied professor - it should be one solo or movement from a piece lasting no more than 5 minutes.
If you will be performing two (2) Noon Recitals, you must perform different repertoire for each.
Every student with repertoire that requires accompaniment must schedule at least one (1) coaching session with their accompanist before each Noon Recital. If this is not done, the student will not be allowed to perform.
All musicians are expected to dress professionally, but this does not mean traditional concert black. Below are some attire guidelines:
Men: Button down shirt with a tie, dress pants and dress shoes. A sportcoat is optional.
Women: Blouse with dress pants and dress shoes. Dresses and skirts are appropriate and should fall below the knee.
Jeans, activewear, graphic t-shirts, tennis shoes, etc. are not allowed.
Each semester, one Noon Recital is designated as the "Open Recital." This gives students the opportunity to sign up to perform if they were not assigned a date, or for students to get additional performance experience.
