The nursing profession encourages lifelong learning and constant self-improvement amongst nurses in their respective fields. Adriel believes the best nurses are ones who are self-aware of their abilities and limitations, and make the necessary steps to improve upon their weaknesses. This can be done by seeking opportunities in continuing education.
This was why Adriel voluntarily completed courses in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). These courses led to professional growth, as they gave Adriel a deeper understanding of the interventions involved with patients who require more complex interventions that go beyond the scope of the ASBSN program. For example, he learned more about the process of running a code and about the medications used when patients go into ventricular fibrillation, etc.
Healthcare is constantly evolving and treatments are always being updated. Nurses have a responsibility to remain current if they want to give their patients the best care possible. Completing educational courses such as ACLS and PALS was Adriel's way of dispelling the unpredictability and ambiguity that comes with entering an ever-changing healthcare system.
