Demonstrate basic knowledge of healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments, including local, state, national, and global healthcare trends.
The nursing profession goes far beyond the acute care setting of a hospital. In fact, lessons from nursing can also be applied globally to address international and humanitarian issues. Adriel and his colleagues proved this by doing extensive research on the landmine crisis in Mosul, Iraq for their 'global health assignment'. The purpose of the assignment was to create a program that would theoretically reduce the morbidity and mortality related to mines and improvised explosive devices by 20% within 5 years in Mosul, Iraq.
To accomplish this, Adriel learned about the policies already in place regarding mine detection and removal, organizations that finance mine removal projects, and the local and international governmental regulatory bodies that oversee these processes. For instance, Adriel learned how he could work with the United Nations and the Mine Advisory Group to receive funding and grants in order to implement a mine detection program using specially trained rats. Adriel used this information to write the logic model, goals, objectives, technical approach, and monitoring/evaluation section of the program.

Adriel and his colleagues also delivered a presentation on the issues related to 'advancing nursing education'. He and his group did extensive research into the policies surrounding nursing education programs, national trends related to nursing education, the history surrounding the issue, and the benefits of receiving advanced nursing degrees.
