Overpopulation threatened to destroy the Valorian civilization, and resources were becoming scarce, causing internal strife and hints of civil war. Turning to their patron Goddess Erathis for guidance, the Valorians received visions of another land, far across the vast oceans veiled in mist. It is here they journeyed to lay claim to a new dominion for all Valorians.
After five weeks at sea, and having lost 3 of its 20 ships to the unknown dangers of the Mists, the Valorian fleet caught the slightest hint of land far off in the Eastern Horizon. The fleet never reached the shores, however. A massive serpent of the deeps attacked and destroyed three ships before turning its attention on a fourth, physically tearing it asunder. Those who survived were tossed and dragged through the coastal currents and washed up on mysterious shores, surrounded by their dead and dying countrymen, and the wreckage of the fleet. Cold, hungry, and scattered, the Valorian people did whatever was necessary to survive and conquer this strange new world.
Years of war, exploration, sacrifice, and hardship settled the lands of Paradise Vale. A tight cluster of well-defended settlements bolstered by powerful allies and magics brought about a tentative age of prosperity. But as time wore on, the difficulties began mounting—first, the disappearance of their powerful Frost Giant Allies, the Joten. Later a civil war between the settlements of Goodberry and Warrensville. And most recently, the sudden and dangerous decline of magic.
Desperate for answers, the Mage's Guild of the Runehall has been investing all of its considerable resources into finding a solution. Divinations from the Mage Master, Celore, had revealed answers to the east. The time had come to activate the volatile teleportation circle discovered years earlier. The mages sought to connect with a similar device believed to lay dormant in some far-flung eastern ruins. The operation was a success but at a high cost. The teleportation was only one-way. Nearly 1000 miles from the nearest Valorian settlement, the brave mages and adventurers who traveled through the portal must fight for survival against the denizens of an ancient dungeon and the surrounding fey forests.
Paradise Vale is essentially an (MMORPG) or massively multiplayer online role-playing game, except it is also dungeons and dragons. There are no adventure paths, no set campaign storylines to follow, and no set sessions. Together, you and your fellow adventurers will explore and settle a procedural-generated world. Explore, conquer, and develop.
There is no limit to the number of players in this game. Using our Discord Server, players make plans for the game and organize into parties to execute them. Groups schedule time with one of the DMs to make it happen. You can play as much or as little as you like. Available DMs and spots being the only limiting factor.
Do you want to build a house? Build a house. Do you want to hunt down a dragon? Let's do it. Do you want to broker a trade agreement with the native Plant People? Let's get to roleplaying. Players and their decisions control how the game progresses and evolves.
Besides being a west marches style game, Paradise Vale uses very difficult house rules. This time around we are using the Giffyglyph collection of rules.
You are also playing in a procedural-generated homebrew world shaped organically by player actions and decisions.
Paradise is run using Foundry VTT. Our community uses Discord to discuss and schedule games and role play in between sessions.
