Vertical Honors Program Entrance Criteria

Note: 1. Students wishing to take any of the English Vertical Honors

courses listed below must be recommended by their current English teacher and

meet the specific criteria indicated below the course title.

2. Students who transfer from another school (public, private, or parochial) and want to

take any of the English Vertical Honors courses listed below must have their transcript

evaluated by the English Chairperson and take an entrance exam developed by the

Vertical English Honors Committee.

English 7 Honors (students must meet 6/7 criteria)

1. English Department Placement Test = 90%

2. Grade 6 Work Habits (homework is complete and on time) = A

3. Grade 6 Work Habits (demonstrates cooperation) = A

4. Grade 6 Work Habits (applies effort) = A

5. Grade 6 Reading (draw inferences from text) score of = 4

6. Grade 6 Writing (produces writing appropriate to task, etc.) score of 4

7. Last Grade 6 NWEA score = 221

English 8 Honors

1. English 7 Final Average of 95%

2. English 7 Honors Final Average of 87%

3. English 7 Midyear Exam score of 95%

4. English 7 Honors Midyear Exam score of 85%

5. English 7/7 Honors Work Habits (Homework) = A
