AP English Literature and Composition is an intellectually stimulating college level course that challenges honors level students in grades 11 or 12 to think, read and write critically. Literature from a variety of genres and cultural perspectives from the 15th century to the modern era will be covered, with a special emphasis placed on discovering how the form and structure of a literary work contributes to its overall meaning. In addition, students will be exposed to various schools of literary theory such as feminism, psychoanalytic criticism and deconstructionism. While the course is designed to successfully prepare students for the mandatory AP exam in May, its ultimate goal is to foster a life-long love of reading and understanding of how literature can transform our lives for the better.
