Theme for Q4
This quarter, students will learn about Guatemala's indumentaria, or traditional dress. They will practice building their ability to persuade and express opinions through exploring issues related to collective intellectual property rights and cultural appropriation.Â
Quarter 4 Objectives: Novice HighÂ
Interpretive: I can identify the topic and some isolated facts from simple sentences in informational texts.Â
Interpersonal: I can request and provide information by asking and answering practiced and some original questions on familiar and everyday topics, using simple sentences most of the time.Â

Theme for Q3
This quarter, students will investigate typical foods of Guatemala to further practice stem-change verbs and, later, to learn about community organizations found in the towns around Lago Atitlán.

Interpersonal: I can express, ask about, and react to preferences, feelings, or opinions on familiar topics, using simple sentences most of the time and asking questions to keep the conversation on topic.Â

This quarter, students will learn how to express preferences using stem-change verbs as they explore different regions in Guatemala.Â
Quarter 2 Objectives: Novice HighÂ
Interpretive: I can sometimes identify the main idea of published materials. / I can identify destinations and major attractions on a travel brochure.Â
Interpersonal: I can make plans with others. / I can accept or reject an invitation to do something or go somewhere.Â

Theme for Q1
This quarter, students will learn about identity in Guatemala as they study four cultural groups: the Maya, Xinca, GarÃfuna and Ladino. They will review SER and ESTAR, both verbs that mean "to be" in Spanish, as well as related vocabulary.Â

Interpersonal: I can contribute to a conversation about a text by identifying who, what, when, and where.
