Theme for Q4
This quarter, students will learn about weather, clothing and activities to do during different seasons. We will compare the weather in Chicago and other cities, as well as explore different parks and playgrounds in countries where Spanish is spoken.
Quarter Objectives: Novice Low - Novice Mid
Interpretive: I can identify the names of different seasons and related clothing and activities.
Interpersonal: I can express my preferences of activities I do during different seasons.
Presentational: I can describe at least 4 activities my family and I do at the park.
Theme for Q3
This quarter, students will learn about food. They will categorize food by type, discuss their preferences and be able to describe foods using simple phrases. Students will also explore Mexican cuisine, including mole, pan dulce and paletas.
Quarter 3 Objectives: Novice Low - Novice Mid
Interpretive: I can identify names of food items and can categorize foods according to their type (e.g. grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy).
Interpersonal: I can express my needs and wants using “yo quiero” and “yo tengo”.
Presentational: I can give some simple information about foods based on pictures.
Theme for Q2
This quarter, students will review family vocabulary. They will begin to describe family members, pets and other animals or objects using simple opposite pairs. Students will learn about alebrijes, a traditional Mexican folk art, and create their own.
Quarter 2 Objectives: Novice Low
Interpretive: I can identify at least 5 family members.
Interpersonal: I can discuss my own family using the phrase "Yo tengo" (I have).
Presentational: I can describe people, animals or objects using opposite pairs.
Theme for Q1
This quarter, students will read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Using the story, they will be able to review color and food vocabulary as well as learn new words related to the days of the week. Students will learn about the lifecycle of the monarch butterfly and work together to create symbolic monarchs for the Journey North Symbolic Migration.
Quarter 1 Objectives: Novice Low
Interpretive: I can identify some words or phrases from a read aloud story.
Interpersonal: I can say what food I like or dislike.
Presentational: I can name the parts of the butterfly life cycle.
