Quarter 1, Objectives and Unit 1: Animals and Pets
Learners Can:
Interpretive Reading:
Identify and comprehend words related to common animals and pets found in the zoo and at home.
Identify Arabic letters within words of animal names.
Interpersonal:
Use “have” and “don’t have” when talking about pets and animals.
Express a like or dislike of animals when asked.
Presentational Speaking:
Sing animal songs -10 animals and 2 birds.
Orally introduce the pets they have and the pets they like.
Presentational Writing:
Trace and write letters with the different shapes and sounds.
Cultural
-Discuss the differences between Arabs’ and Americans’ reactions toward pets at home.
Quarter 2, Objectives and Unit 2: Parts of the Body
Learners Can:
Interpretive Listening and Reading:
Read and comprehend Arabic words and phrases related to body parts along with the 5 senses.
Identify basic body parts: eyes, nose, ears, mouth, hands, feet, etc.
Interpersonal:
Ask and answer simple questions about body parts (Question: What is this? Answer: This is___)
What Color are your eyes or hair?
My eye/hair color is……
Ask and respond to how many body parts they have (e.g., two eyes, one nose)
Presentational
Name parts of the body. Give simple physical descriptions and talk about parts of the body. (e.g., I have 10 fingers, I have brown eyes/hair)
Sing an authentic Arabic body parts song (15 parts)
Quarter 3, Objectives and Unit 3: Calendar (Days and Months)
Learners Can:
Interpretive Listening and Reading:
Trace, read, spell, and comprehend a few calendar-related words (Date/Day/Month/Year).
Identify and understand the day and month when listening to them in an authentic song.
Presentational Speaking:
Count aloud numbers from 1-31.
Sing songs about the 12 months and 7 days of the week.
Interpersonal Speaking:
Converse about the months, dates, and days of the week.
Make an Arabic script calendar of the month and ask each other for information using it, such as the birthdays of family members.
Quarter 4, Objectives and Unit 4: Describing Family and Friends
Learners Can:
Interpretive Listening and Reading:
Identify the physical features of family members and friends, such as tall, short, heavyset, thin, old, and young.
Trace, read, spell, and comprehend Arabic words for family members, friends, objects, and pets, as well as their physical descriptions.
Presentational Speaking:
Name the immediate family members on a family tree.
Describe the basic physical features of family members, friends, objects, and my pet, if I have one.
Interpersonal Speaking:
Ask and answer questions about the physical features of family members, friends, objects, and/or my pet, if I have one. For example: who is s/he? What/Who is tall, old, big, etc.?
