Late work will be accepted under the following conditions:
Ø Interpersonal Mode Assessments: No makeups/redos unless the student was absent or had extenuating circumstances. Makeups are to be scheduled with the teacher. If the student does not participate in the interpersonal mode assessment after multiple attempts and/or modifications (ie, there is nothing to grade), then the student will receive a zero in the Gradebook, and the parent will be notified.
Ø Presentational Mode Assessments: For absences or extenuating circumstances, students will be allowed up to one week scheduled with the teacher to complete the written assignment or present to the class. If a student arrives on the presentation day with nothing prepared, then a grade of zero will be given until the presentation is completed. The highest grade earned on a late presentation is 89.
Ø Interpretive Mode Assessments: If absent, the student will be allowed up to one week to make up the assessment. Retakes will be at the discretion of the teacher, depending on the assignment.
Ø In-Class Work: Any in-class work that is not completed within the timeframe set by the teacher should be completed at home and returned the following class day.
Ø No extra credit assignments.
Ø For grades 4-8, it is your responsibility to find out what assignments/quizzes were missed during an absence. Check with your partners *before* consulting me.
Ø If you have an excused absence, you have the same number of days absent to turn in your work.
Ø In case of a long-term absence, it is the students' and parents’ responsibility to meet with the teacher as soon as possible to arrange a plan for submitting missed assignments.
Ø All missed quizzes and homework will be taken upon return from the absence. You will be asked to arrange a time to make up quizzes during your language period.

How can I help my child learn the Arabic content of the week?
1. Monitor Progress: Ensure your child is following the reading and writing plan step by step.
2. Reinforce Learning: Encourage your child to recite all the letters learned daily or sing the alphabet song.
3. Assess Alphabet Knowledge: You may test your child’s knowledge of the Arabic alphabet by printing these flashcards and asking them to identify each letter. Please ensure no English is written on the flashcards: Free Arabic Alphabet Flashcards
Alternatively, you can observe your child completing this Quizlet self-check activity: Arabic Alphabet Quizlet
4. Practice Writing: Confirm that your child uses the Arabic script to practice writing.
5. Practice Reading: Confirm that your child uses the Arabic packet and read all the included sentences associated with the current part of the unit that we are learning currently. This way your child can be ready when we do reading practices in class and/or comprehension activities.
Take the Arabic packet home daily and spend 10–15 minutes practicing the current vocabulary.
Complete any missing assignments at home to stay on track with your class work.
Ask for help immediately when needed.
Practice reading sentences related to each part of the unit as soon as we begin that section.
During reading activities, raise your hand and try to read aloud. Participate in speaking activities by volunteering. There is nothing to lose by trying—and you might earn Falcon Bucks!
Please email me if you need help with any assignment.

Path to Seal of Biliteracy:
Our 5th and 8th-graders will take the Path to the Seal of Biliteracy test. In March of every year, our 8th grade studnts will take the STAMP 4S test. In March every year, our 5th grade studnts will take the STAMP 4Se test. To learn more about the Path to Seal of Biliteracy, please Click Here:
Benefits: To learn more about a student's level from an objective snapshot in time, similar to other standardized tests they take. To recognize the achievement and hard work that students have put in so far on their journey toward becoming bi-/multi-lingual. To be able to share with high schools for potential placement (if 8th).
Earning the award is a bonus, but even if they don't, the exam can provide a clear picture of what students are able to do alone in the language without support and to better understand what they can work on to continue to build proficiency.
