Wraparound
Georgia Department of Education’s Wraparound Initiative is a response to the growing need to address non-academic barriers to student learning, and to a body of research that shows students are better able to learn and achieve when those barriers are removed.

The Georgia Department of Education's Whole Child model includes five tenets: Healthy, Safe, Engaged, Supported, and Challenged:
Healthy: Each student enters school healthy and learns about and practices healthy lifestyles.
Safe: Each student learns in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults.
Engaged: Each student is actively engaged in learning and is connected to the school and broader community.
Supported: Each student has access to personalized learning and is supported by qualified, caring adults.
Challenged: Each student is challenged academically and prepared for success in college or further study and for employment and participation in a global environment.
A toolkit was developed by the Office of Whole Child Supports to provide a "one stop" location of basic information to support efforts of educating the whole child. Click here to visit the Georgia Department of Education’s Whole Child toolkit. Educating the whole child means to acknowledge and address non-academic factors that impact academic outcomes while expanding learning opportunities. Wraparound services connect students and families with resources to support and improve student achievement.

During the summer months away from school, it’s crucial that children have access to healthy meals, safe environments, and books and educational opportunities so they can keep learning. Public and private partners across Georgia—including the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), Georgia Family Connection Partnership, Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, Georgia Public Library Service, Georgia Public Broadcasting, and Governor’s Office of Student Achievement—have come together to create this online toolkit with resources for summer reading, learning, safety, and meals.
