During the sophomore year, you should seek steady growth in your grades and the selection of challenging courses, each year building upon the year prior. This is the year that you should transition from joining clubs, sports, and the arts to becoming an engaged and committed participant who influences positive change. Self-reflection and research should continue while you:
Continue to work to the best of your ability academically
Seek help when challenges arise
Dedicate time to activities time to activities that reflect your passions
Demonstrate initiative and leadership in activities
Take the PSAT during school in October and check “Yes” for the Student Search Service if you would like schools to contact you.
Attend College Advising presentations.
Explore college and career options through Overgrad
Search Big Future through College Board for college and career ideas.
Review your YouScience results and dig deeper into career options.
Log community service hours throughout the year.
Visit colleges as you are able.
Attend a college fair.
Identify opportunities to gain new skills or experiences over the summer including employment, mission trips, or academic enrichment programs.
Keep track of skills, experiences, and activities. Make detailed notes for later use.
Meet with your school counselor at least once.
Complete 10 scholarship applications. Hint: look for local scholarships!
