• Keep track of all requirements and deadlines related to the college admission process (testing, interviews, document requests, applications, etc.).
• Be honest and proactive in communication with your parents and college advisor.
• Fill out applications and write essays.
• Invite your parents to review your application before you submit.
Parents
• Seek the Lord’s counsel with and on behalf of your child.
• Throughout high school, talk meaningfully about course selection, extracurricular activities, summer plans, student interests, and talents.
• Discuss your expectations and your student’s expectations for parent help throughout the process.
• Help prioritize college search and application tasks (visits, deadlines, deposits, etc.).
• Develop a tracking system, such as an Excel spreadsheet.
• Talk about financial expectations, conduct research, and file financial aid applications on time.
• Review completed applications, and be available to help as needed.
• Provide unconditional love and support. Celebrate EVERY college acceptance.
Advisor
• Pray for students as they seek God’s will concerning a good college match.
• Provide students with guidance on researching schools, corresponding with schools, and developing a list of schools to pursue.
• Guide students through course selection, testing, applications, and enrichment opportunities.
• Share professional knowledge of current and historical trends in college admission.
• Write recommendations and be an advocate throughout the entire college search process.
• Send supporting documents to colleges.
