WJEC L1/2 Engineering

WJEC Level 1/2 Engineering is a Vocational Qualification with the same value as a GCSE. The big difference being there is more emphasis placed on practical work, although there is an externally examined unit to carry out.

The applied purpose provides the opportunity for authentic work related learning, but more than this, it will require learners to consider how the use and application of their learning impacts on individuals, employers, society and the environment. The applied purpose will also enable learners to learn in such a way that they develop:

  • skills required for independent learning and development;

  • a range of generic and transferable skills;

  • the ability to solve problems;

  • the skills of project based research, development and presentation;

  • the fundamental ability to work alongside other professionals, in a professional environment;

  • the ability to apply learning in vocational contexts

There are three units to undertake, each being graded L1 Pass, L2 Pass, L2 Merit and L2 Distinction.

Unit 1 (30GLH)

The purpose of this unit is for learners to analyse engineered products in order to propose design solutions to meet requirements.

Unit 2 (60GLH)

The purpose of this unit is for learners to use skills developed to produce an engineered product.

Unit 3 (Externally assessed) (30GLH)

The purpose of this unit is for learners to use their knowledge and understanding of engineering processes and material properties to solve problems.
