It is vital that families take an active role in character education at home to support their child's ever-developing social-emotional needs. Parents and caregivers engaging in social-emotional learning (SEL) benefits all family members by fostering healthy relationships, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing overall well-being and success. "Consistent practice of SEL skills, supported by parental involvement, leads to stronger emotional resilience and better mental health for children."
The best thing you can do for your developing child is talk to them about their lives both inside and outside of the home, and listen to understand their needs with an open heart and open mind. Car rides and family dinners are great times to engage in conversations with kids!
We recommend you communicate regularly with your child about all of our monthly Cubs with Character Traits, in addition to several other important areas that are not explicitly focused on at school. Below are some common areas that many children struggle with in elementary grade levels. These are great topics for families to research and explore together. We have provided activities and resources for many of these areas of focus.
Please keep in mind that you can reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or grade-level counselor for support at any time.
